Some selling and trading going on. I had a lot of Lapua 308 brass, looks like I bought 1000 pieces sometime in the past. That's unnecessary and it's valuable so I tried to sell it on the forum with no luck. However, there is a brass vendor in Cary who saw my post and offered to buy the whole lot. His pricing was pretty agreeable so I sold him 750 pieces.

There was also that spool of monster cable that dad had left from his wiring and has been sitting in the garage for... well 8 years? I dunno. The woman wanted me to do something with it so I checked around to see if anyone could use it and the glock kid on the forum had use for it so I was just going to give it to him. He didn't want it free so he offered me some sig AR mags in trade. OK, works for me. They're easier to toss in a box and forget about than a huge spool of wire. :)

Dad also gave me a bunch of old golf balls to sort through, found some usable and some that are more mementos. An old Gilmore Steel ball from the 70s....

Shower glass is in, now I just need to hang the towel bar.

Some baking last night making a small batch of sugar cookies:

And today a large batch of bagel dogs to freeze while the glass guys were doing the bathroom. I was stuck 'watching' so I made good use of the time.

Towel bar in, couple of deck screws into the stud. That's not going anywhere.

I think we're officially done?

At the club meeting I went over and checked out the concrete work in progress. By now they have most of it finished (5 days after I took these pictures).

In trade for gun lessons the prepper chick is helping with the garden. First up was to double the height and add more soil. Next up is to build a trellis across the back.

The window replacement guy came yesterday and those two windows with the laminating solar tint stuff have been replaced. They're also the cleanest windows in the house. :)

So the prepper chick, probably should say something there. She's from the online group, talked to her at a couple of the in-person meetings and she's of a like mind. Not crazy end of the world stuff, just the actual things we've seen like power outages, hurricanes, ice storms, etc. She's weak with weapons, but solid with gardening so we're trading. I came up with a 4 page "handgun 101" document which covers basically everything I know. Obviously more than a 101 but it's just a document for us to train to.

Related, I told prepper chick to bring something for herself for lunch since I didn't have anything really so she made a huge batch of bourbon meatballs and cornbread muffins and left the extras. I've been eating them for days.

Looking through the last few years journal entries for quail pictures to use in my presentation and it's clear I only do a few things of note. Build random crap, gun stuff, bake. Not one note, but I need to make sure I write stuff down so it's preserved and I look more well rounded.

But baking... or not really baking but making food stuff; finally tried the granola bar recipe I had saved. Used all store bought cheap stuff and they turned out amazing. The woman keeps eating them and telling me to make more so they must be good. Next batch I'll use quality oats, my vanilla extract and Melissa's honey.

Played 9 holes today, even though it's Sunday. Yea, full price day! Except, we used our punch card so the round was free, only had to pay $10 for the cart rental. Total deal. I played like crap, my wrist is all screwed up from playing the guitar too much but the woman did very well. She even drove the green on 7, or whatever that damn water hole is. I hit too far left and ended up on the backside of the green but not in the water at least. I can't chip when I can bend my wrist, that caused me some trouble.

We're supposed to run the bathroom fans for 15 minutes after a shower and I keep forgetting to come back and turn them off so...

Faceplate will be here tomorrow hopefully. We can't use one of the fancy push button or digital ones because there is no neutral wire in the setup. Instead of running hot, neutral and ground down to the switch they just ran a single 2-conductor wire and are running hot to the switch and the load on the other side. Mechanical interrupters with a clicky timer are all we get. Well, unless I wanted to run another wire up to where the switch lead is spliced in, but I don't.

Yesterday while I went to a practice day at Tilly's, the woman went to a tree trimming class put on my Holly Springs. Free class and they gave you some legitimately good trimmers for 'free' (paid for with money stolen from the residents of Holly Springs). But really free for us since we don't pay into their tax base. We're freeloaders!

Melissa gave me an herb pot which we'll break up and put into the garden box when it's ready, but she said for now to just stick it somewhere. I put it on top of the tarp and declared myself a gardener.

Since apple broke time machine to samba shares, again, I had just moved the backup disk to my mac and run time machine from everywhere to that. That seems to work, so the only thing on the 'documents' VM anymore was my actual document archive. I moved that to a simple windows share, and am backing it up via the mac. I'm also making sure all the web documents (like this journal) are saved in a few places on and off site, but the local mirroring was getting a little complex. I'll simplify this over time a little more:

Faceplate installed, got the switches squared up best I can. Now at some point I need to repair the damage done by the old face plate and the poor job they did around the new opening.

Melissa gave me a bunch of seed packs and instructions to plant 200f them ASAP. Might lose some if we get a frost, but if we don't then this will be the first crop followed by the second a few weeks after.

Strange round of golf today. I couldn't hit crap during warm-up, then I managed to drive the green on 6 holes, and totally bork up one hole, and putt like shit. So record number of good drives, but a very poor score overall.

Here's a selfie of the two of us after hole 20 looking happy, because...

This is where both our tee shots ended up. This is her worst hole, always screws up but no longer, the bad streak is broken.

Turkish turkey kabobs with that dill flavored sauce like at Taziki's. It was pretty good:

Doing a bunch of drive swapping again, removing one of the spinning disks from the camera system and replacing it with a tiny SSD. That lets me cache camera files somewhere that won't get picked up by the backup (doesn't let you exclude directories for some reason) which reduces the backup image size. Less waste, less drives.

I did lose the gamebox partition on the camera system which is a bit worrisome, not sure why that 1 partition got nuked but of all the ones to lose that was the least critical. Need to fire it back up and let it backup again, but no big deal.

Power draw on the camera box is now 85 watts with the drives being accessed. That's not bad, and we'll see if it's like that long term. If it is, my desire to switch to the i7 laptop is reduced since power isn't being wasted as much now.

Yesterday I did a clean out of the barn, tossed a lot of crap. I also rolled out the carpets that were in the woman's office when we bought it to both protect the plastic over the dirt in the dirt room as well as pad the tile. I'm storing all the tile and spare materials down there so we'll never have to move them again. They just convey with the house.

I wanted an easier way to check the well pump log than logging in to the arduino control pi and reading a file, so I thought to run a web server on there. Sadly the pi is so out of date the repos are gone, so I can't add it. No problem, I'll just setup a crontab entry to ssh over and grab them and toss them in a file on the main web server and bookmark that. Should work...

Talked to Liz Steenson for a few hours the other day, she's getting ready to retire from Apple after 23 years. She's looking old, but aren't we all. Using her discount I got an M2 mac mini, going to update my 2015 MBP to something 8 years newer that can run the latest OS. Should be plenty zippy. I didn't want an iMac or another MBP because I use this as a desktop 1000f the time and already have 'good enough' monitors. Not sure what I would do with 4k resolution, my eyes kinda suck now.
