A whole lotta scootering to nowhere.

For some reason it took the first picture as a movie and not a picture, I think I held the button on the phone too long and it started filming instead of taking a single? Or it's a bug.

I've worn the tip off a few picks, but this is the first catastrophic failure of one. My playing was sounding funny and I just assumed it was me, but then a piece of plastic flew across the sheet music and everything stopped working.

Also, applied for another part time job. This one is ultra wonky, but I at least hope the interview will be interesting. Had to use my real resume to submit, the job site required it. I guess I could have put in something fake but I already had the resume ready so why not hit them with the full load of unrelated nonsense.

We survived. Forgot to take pictures of the fabulous meal, but here's the menu.

I ordered a dagger slide on sale for $200, has a threaded barrel, optics cut and suppressor height sights. A deal, but then I couldn't figure out exactly why I'm trying to upgrade the poly80 that I never use from 357sig to 9mm... am I then going to shoot it any? Dumb.

I tried to cancel but it didn't work and they shipped it. I can return it, but after shipping it back and paying restocking or some such it's probably better to just keep it. The green doesn't match exactly so I swapped the green slide onto the black dagger frame and put the black dagger slide on the poly80, but then didn't like that so much. So mis-matched greens it is:

At $200 it's a pretty good deal for a complete slide ready to go, they even include the thread protector. So much better than the "rock slide" brand stuff I had on there before with it's wish.com quality parts. Live and learn, and then stop building glock knock-offs.

Friday night I drove to Mebane to stay in a Loves truck stop overnight before going to Sneaky's the next day to help with a CCW class. I said if the truck stop looked sketchy I would just drive though and camp at his place, and when I rolled up and the local PD was hassling some dude I thought... well that's sketchy.

I ended up staying though, it was easy enough to park in the lot across the truck entrance from the stop. There were 4 cars in the lot, and no one was out and no one was making noise so it was an easy environment to sleep in. Earlier in the night there were some douchebags doing burnouts and blasting music up on the main road, but by 11pm they went off to wherever douches go to shoot each other at 2am. The truckers would come in and turn their lights off and drive really slow, they're aware there are 100 people sleeping in a row right there.

The class at Sneaky's was OK, 12 students and only a few total noobs. I helped those noobs get enough skills to pass the shooting qual, which in and of itself shows just how useless that qual is. You should not be able to go from "never fired a pistol" to "passed the qualification" in 30 minutes.

Sneaky has some goats now:

It was raining the entire day up at the farm, and kinda cold. Luckily I had a jacket in the van. The humidity was pretty bad though, as seen here by the rear sight on my G43x rusting.

Also on the trip, picked up a nail in the passenger side rear tire. I caught it at the final gas stop while checking the tires (something I try to do each time) and I got it handled the next day. Whew. Better than dealing with it on the side of the road, at night, in the rain.

Class started this Monday, the 6 part series on Robotic Space Exploration. I was the youngest in the room by 15 years, always doing stuff ahead of my age bracket. :) Really good first lecture, 90 minutes flew by. Looking forward to the rest of it. Here's the 'first day of school' selfie:

Played 18 today at Knights Play. I had some good shots, and some bad, and really can't putt. Once I get the bathroom cabinet parts out of the basement I'll start practicing putting down there. Dryfire, guitar, putting... all sorts of daily stuff that needs to happen!

Sgammo had some wolf 223 "cheap", grabbed a case. We're getting to the end of the pre-import ban stuff, once those contracts are up it's goodbye to cheap Russian ammo.

One burner went out on the stove, I got the parts ordered and fixed it. Winning. Then one of the rear burners exploded (dead short?) right after I finished testing the repair. Loosing. Ordered that burner, and have to see what the hell happened. Guessing I bent a contact while fixing the other and shorted that burner on accident.

Had to put Bleu down, she was on her last legs. Old chicken, she had a full life.

I've been running further (2.5 miles) and doing more elevation change by running the hill section twice, but my pace hasn't changed. Just over 8 minute miles the whole time. Been stuck there for a while, so this last time I decided to cut the distance back to 2 miles and just run faster. Every time I passed someone I tried to pick it up, not a sprint but pushing.

After those two miles... I magically cut 30 seconds off my pace. That's a big drop, and now I just need to keep it up.

The woman and I and Rachel and what's his face played a game in downtown Raleigh. It was a real time walking around and geo fencing thing with puzzles and whatnot. There were literally 100s of people wandering around downtown but somehow we weren't all bunched up so they must have been having people start in different spots. Since it was all in the app you couldn't really tell what anyone else was doing at any particular spot.

Rachel made some dessert treats to lour me to come play the game, otherwise I wasn't going. It was worth it.

Golf on Wednesday, and I almost played bogie golf. Drove the green on 5 holes, impressive, but couldn't putt well enough to make it good.

Did my first car inspection gig yesterday. It was way more work than expected. 30 minutes per car which wasn't horrible but then wandering all around the dealership trying to find the cars. I'm more sore from this than fight club. Getting old!

There was a lot of cleanup to do after, working with my boss reviewing all the inspections and correcting errors. I made more mistakes than I thought I would, trying to be careful but after 6 hours.... kinda drained.

They're all published to the auction now though. Whew. Mostly boring cars, but one lime green charger and a modified Toyota 86, but at least it was a 6 speed. First clutch I've pushed in years.

After getting no buyers for the FX9 on the forum I decided to trade it in at FG&G. I was expecting $250-300 or something but they offered $500 so I snapped it up. That's more than I was trying to get for it on the forum. Cost me $150 to rent it for 9 months, not the best but also not as bad as it could be. With the new ATF 'brace rule' coming down and talk of amnesty for SBR registration the market for braced anything has dried up.

I couldn't find anything at FG&G to trade for, but then... noticed they had the Keltec P17 in 3 colors, all with the thread adapter and 3 mags. Couldn't pass up the chance to try one at a 'reasonable' mark-up over MSRP (it is a Keltec after all). It was non-functional when I got it home, it would chamber a round but not fire until you moved the slide about half way back and release it again and then it would fire once, chamber the next round but then not fire. The hammer was being cocked, you can see it through a slot in the back of the slide, but the trigger wouldn't move. Like the safety was stuck on sorta. After a few rounds that way it started working normally for the next 45 rounds. No idea what that was about.

Looks kinda cool in green, and worked in the rain just now. :)

Another flat, picked up this screw while running errands and it went flat very fast. Noticed it at the gas station about 10 miles from the house and the pressure light wasn't on yet but 3 miles later it was and rolling into the garage it was half flat.

New hearing test, and it shows I'm at least half deaf. The machine couldn't go loud enough for me to hear anything in those upper ranges. :(

Comparing it to the 2001 test it shows equal loss across the entire range.

Dentist yesterday, and my religious use of floss paid off. Nothing to report there except that without insurance they charge $160 for the cleaning and whatnot instead of $125. I was expecting it to be the same or less for a 'cash discount' but apparently they're not bound by the insurance negotiated pricing so they put the screws to those without. Sigh.
