Another Jeff class in the books.
I didn't take a picture of it, but I made another batch of cheese. This time I just used store bought whole milk and messed with the rennet content. It was too low this time, and the curd didn't come together very well. I got a tiny amount of cheese out of the effort, and it was edible. We used it on some toast.
I'm starting to wonder if the quantity of milk you have to use has a lower bound. I keep trying to ratio everything down from 2 gallons to 1/2 gallon, but maybe there is a lower end where things just don't "come together" without those 2 gallons of liquid. Maybe I should really read the cheese book?
Still working away on the cabinets, at least 60 percent done at this point. The last of the drawers and doors are clean and sanded and have the first coat on the back and 3 layers of primer are down on the bare wood in the cabinets that will remain open. Lots of sanding left to do on the cabinet frames, which is going to make a mess.
I'm YouTube famous, I helped Jeff with a CQB video for his channel, playing the part of 'anonymous entry team member'. Whatever, I'm famous. :)
It was filmed in an old chiropractic office that's owned by some guy that is known to an old SF guy that Jeff somehow met. It's icky and gross and 70s inside (but 90F+ due to a lack of AC) but should make a good force on force shoot house if he wants to train people that way.
Another match today, and I'm upset about it. There was a target that required 3 hits that was partially obscured by a barrel. I hit the barrel and saw it, so I made up that shot. The target had 3 hits in the -0 and one hit in the -3 that was clearly the round that skipped off the barrel since it was in the target sideways. The RO said 2 of my hits didn't count because they too went through the barrel (which I call BS on since they were perfectly round holes in the paper and that's not what happens after it goes through a barrel) so he scored me as 2 misses. 10 seconds of penalties, put me in 2nd in division and dropped me 2 spots overall (to 9th). Still, 8th (ignoring the PCC guy) isn't bad out of over 80 shooters.
This weekend's together activity was a walk around a lake at a new park up on Ten Ten. New to us, not 'new' as in newly created. It's a fine little sanitized park, all the trails are paved and there are lots of benches. Lame, but quiet in the morning so it was a fine walk somewhere other than the usual down the street trip. Lots of turtles in the lake, and lots of tree damage by a beaver which made the woman happy for some reason.
After the walk we went to this random farm the woman saw on Nextdoor. It's some old codger that lives on 40+ acres right on the edge of Cary basically. He's probably been there his whole life, and is still growing veggies and stuff on millions and millions of dollars in prime real estate. I suspect when he dies his decedents will sell that off right quick and it will get turned into hundreds of shitbox houses, but in the mean time you can stop by the honor system stand and pick up local produce. It's not cheap, maybe 10% more than the store, but it's actually local and not shipped in from CA or Mexico.
Last weekend we went berry picking and I made a batch of sorbet, which we've already finished off.
Normally I don't subscribe to buying crap from kids, but the neighbors kids (or grandkids in this case) were selling blackberries they picked from down in the creek. $2 a bag, so the woman got some. It's a really good deal, and since they risked poison oak/ivy to go down there to get them, I'll call it a win vs. me doing it for locally sourced berries. The one bag they had left was just enough to make a half batch of sorbet, so when this finishes freezing we'll have another tasty desert.
I'm sharing the keyboard and mouse from the Mac to the PC via a software package called 'synergy' and it works very well, but I didn't have a solution for audio. I replaced the external volume widget I had with this switchbox + volume control, so now I can pick which system gets access to my good headset.
Moved the audio switchbox to up under the desk so it's easier to reach. Turns out even not on the phone/zoom I'm still constantly fiddling with audio levels on youtube and the game.
Oh, and speaking of 'the game', I put Wasteland 3 on my wish list on steam mostly to have it use that as something to base suggestions off of, and it went on sale. $50 down to $15, so I had to get it. Now I have to play it. :)
Jeff's "commercial" style video came out, it makes us look awesome.
Project complete!
Made stir fry, and used the new rice maker and some jasmine rice instead of the instant stuff. What a huge difference! I mean I figured it would be better, but not _that_ much better. Guess we'll be having good rice from here on out.
Also got the bright idea to make fortune cookies. Wasn't going to fold them up, just make them flat disks like you could get from the fortune cookie factory in SF. What we ended up with was the flavor of fortune cookies with the texture of.... soft? They weren't browned enough by half. Probably too thick. I'll make changes next time.
Went to get propane today and stopped by FG&G not expecting to find anything. I was wrong, they had a green framed LCP there. They had a used one as well (black) that they offered me a 'discount' on but for $20 more I'll take the brand new one that's green. Some things are more important than a discount.
The new ones are made here in NC at the new factory up by Elkin (sorta).
I didn't take a before picture on the kitchen repainting, but Kristen had a before the original remodel picture so here's that comparison.
Pressure washer ran really well, got 950f the job done before the gas ran out and that's OK. I'll leave that little bit of work in exchange for being able to store the washer empty. There is no way to add in a cut-off in the fuel line, the tank is directly attached to the intake.
Two gun match out at a new place that Jeff shoots at. I started strong, got weak as the day went on but still came in 13th... only two spots behind Jeff. I'll take that.

Jeff sent some photos, but no video.
So a strange thing at this match, a baby... and the mom had to breast feed at one point so we had to change the shooting order so she could finish. Odd.
Lugnut checking out my pressure washer artwork...
Forgot to put this in, but last week a tree fell across the trail. The guys with the heavy equipment cut it and pulled it aside and then a tree guy showed up to finish the job. I know someone got some good firewood out of it.
Also, forgot to mention we went blackberry picking.
Getting something in each category in the garden. Not much, but something. Winning.
Something only a retired person would do... I taped together all those scraps of pasters that end up in my bag after every match and rolled them up. Have brown (obviously) as well as some white and black.
Hier's kid tried to upgrade the memory in his gaming rig and screwed it up. Something glitched and he couldn't get it working, so Hiers convinced me to try. The kid brought it over and dropped it off and I took a look. Did a CMOS reset, cleared the BIOS, pulled everything out and tested the memory 1 stick at a time until I got a working config (various options in the manual).
So kids being lazy... he didn't even come pick it up himself, sent his mom. Freakin' lazy bastard.
