Range trip and I was using the 3 aftermarket mags I've been testing and found that the one that follower was sticking on was now really sticking. A piece of plastic was sticking out between the follower and the mag body.

Removed the tile floor on half the brooder and put wire down, it's going to be a longer term quail jail so it needs wire. Plus this way when the little guys are ready I can open the other side and let them experience the wire without having to go on it 24/7.

Busy busy day. First thing after chores I went to Home Depot for some materials. 2x4s are now $5/each, apparently inflation is running rampant. Anyway, got a few board and some MDF (instead of plywood) and built some shelving into the generator shed. Nice to have shelves that are deep and high enough to hold the gas cans and won't fail under the weight.

After building and installing the shelving and loading it up, I made a batch of pasta dough for tomorrow, and then decided it was time to make some strawberry jam. The woman had gotten some strawberries and they were getting kinda old so I cored them and mashed them up and got just over 2 cups. With some sugar, lemon juice and (well boiled) jars that originally came with pickles in them from Sneaky, I made up a batch:

Didn't use pectin so it might not gel up as well as commercial stuff, we'll have to see. Next time i will get some pectin before I start though.

The woman got me to make the quail egg and ricotta ravioli and while she loved them... I wasn't a fan.

Got the chain adjusted on the bike, and now since this photo was taken I've changed the oil too. It's getting ready for the bike adventure in a few weeks.

After talking about it for a long time, I finally made some hard tack. Not sure what I'll do with it, really don't want to eat it but I'm thinking I'll do that trick where they smash it back up and make bread out of it. Making bread out of bread sounds weird, but it's more of a preservation trick than anything. Or so they say. We'll see.

Finally got my orange chicken. The woman got some of the PF Chang's frozen stuff at the store and I made it for dinner the other night. It was predictably horrible, not even "mall Chinese" quality, but it was good enough considering I've not had it in 200+ days (easily). Can't remember the last time we had Chinese take-out even before the plague.

I got the knock-off G23 ejector and trigger housing piece. This was slightly cheaper as a complete unit than just the OEM ejector, and I wasn't sure exactly how to replace the ejector in the OEM unit I had so this solved two problems at once.

I bought this a few weeks back, but didn't put it in here. When I saw it on the guys web site it looked green, and I asked him if it was green and he said yes. when I showed up, it was the "black and tan" version, basically FDE with a black barrel (vs. the normal silver un-coated).

When I took it apart to clean it for the first time the slide stop spring popped out and the plastic frame bulged out from the aluminum chassis. I emailed Keltec and they're shipping some parts, and I have the option to just send it in too. I managed to start to take it apart and got the spring back in place and it's fine now. I've only fired 30 rounds through it, but it's holding. I've got a 32ACP load that works well now so I'll be making up more to test with. After 100 or so I'll call it fixed and retire it to backup duty (ie sitting in the safe waiting for the primary to fail):

Still looking for interesting things, I saw that someone turned in 4 old HKs to Eds. Long story short, I ended up buying one of the P7s. It's got strange markings, it's proofed like a civilian gun, but also marked for the Polizei Niedersachsen or “Lower Saxony State Police". So it's a police gun too? Unknown. Proof date is 1984. I asked them if the guy who turned the guns in turned in any extras... like magazines. There were two others, with 1979 dates, for $100/each. Which, sadly, isn't too far off the mark of what these euro heel mag release mags go for. So... I bought both of them so I have 4 total.

It almost fits in the old PM9 holster, and with a little work with the heat gun and the kydex press I can make a reasonably usable holster. It's not like you can run out and get a new production anything for a long discontinued gun.

Jason stole my thunder though, I only had the coolest gun in the club for one day. After he fired mine, he went back and got the other one.

The third gun that's (still) there is a VP70z, which is the first polymer framed gun (before Glock even) but I know for a fact those guns suck having shot Clay's back at OSU, so I had no interest in a crappy gun even if it's historic. The 4th gun was a 9s .45ACP which I thought looked ugly as all get out. Something like a Ruger/Hi-point crossover. Turns out it's the gun used in the first season of Hunter! Had I only known! Well, had I known, would I have paid $900 for a POS just because it was in a show? I mean, I paid $1500+tax for a gun that's only close to the one Hans used so who knows how I think.

Picture from Lane of the sky in CA by our old place. Those fires are doing a number on the air quality there.

The woman killed a snake in the yard, the first one we've seen this year I think. First dangerous one anyway. It got between her and the goats, so she whacked it with a shovel. Don't get between the woman and her goats...

Evidence of the fancy chamber in the P7. Went to the range today (amazing day outside, took the bike, made a double fun trip out of it) and put some rounds through the P7 (verified with enough HST rounds to carry it now), the FDE P32 (was fine) and the G34 just because it's not been getting much love.

Went for a long walk today to test out how the P7 carries. It's surprisingly easy to carry, even considering how heavy it is. I think it's more balanced than the G26 with the 15 round mag in it because the G26 carries so much weight in that long handle with nothing to balance it out up front. Or, it's just wishful thinking. This isn't going to be an EDC anyway, more of an ODC, or Occasional Daily Carry. Special occasions, a BBQ gun, whatever.

Nothing too much to report, except a few good meals. We found some scallops at the farmers market on Saturday (big trip out!) and paired them with my basil pasta. Next night was lamb rack, and me trying another grill technique and the new digital thermometer. Turned out perfectly medium rare.

That's LaFarm bread there with the pasta, they were at the market and the woman wanted to get some.

Was carrying the P7 at the market because, well, it's festive.

Made some raspberry jam, it was easier than the strawberry if for no other reason that the berries come without 'cores' and were easier to squish into the paste pre-boiling.

Out of battery shot with the PM9. Since this has happened a few days ago I've got an RMA and have shipped it off for repairs. It's out of warranty, so.... that sucks.

My camping trip was ruined by this shit ass dog. Got into everything, tore things up, wouldn't go away. It did give me some experience being trapped in the van and what would be needed to make that more comfortable. Still, fucking dogs.

Some arty shots of the P7, just because.
