Nothing cool to report, some work drama but nothing worth typing up. Ah OK here's something. Everything in the bedroom (watch, tablet, phones) keeps picking the Apple airport express that's in the front of the house for their wifi instead of the cisco/linksys unit that's basically right under the bedroom in my office. My theory is that the window sill is blocking the signal since it's made of cinder block or brick or something (it is the foundation of the house after all). So, to move the router more into the room I would need to string a cable across... or finally break out that ethernet to coax adapter pair and try it.

It's working, at first I thought it was pretty slow, my old laptop was saying I was getting 20mbit via 'speed test' but it turns out that's the laptop's limit, even on 5ghz wifi. My phone says 75mbit. Haven't tried the fast laptop yet, maybe I should do that now....

Forgot about this too. Got my voting done on Tuesday, canceled out most of the woman's Dem votes. As usual the libertarian candidates were mostly whack jobs.

The fast laptop gets 90+ mbit via wifi and the coax adapter and since it's got a 100mbit interface I think that's about all we're going to get. Not bad though, and plenty good for my purposes.

Bauhaus (or some subset of it) is doing some crazy tour and they're playing in Carboro of all places. The woman already got tickets and she's dusting off the vinyl to check the original play lists. She's kinda nutty.

Instant generator shed, just add money. It's not even that visible from the house or driveway, I think it's a good spot. Now comes the hard part, the trenching and running of cables.

Found a use for that little phone stand thing I got from dad (that belonged to my great grandmother)... a nice little wifi access point holder. The interior of the box is lined with copper. Some sort of Faraday cage? What did they know about in the 50s?

Popup at La Farm Bakery last night. Plating was really random, no two plates seemed to match and somehow the woman got more fish than me, but otherwise it was OK. Wine pairings were 2 whites and 1 red. Sigh.

The batteries in my cheap light rattle around when you try to use it as a weapon, so I fixed it with some tape. Now the CR123s are the same diameter as the rechargeable 1450-whatever that could be in there.

Last week the woman started out sick, we thought it might be food poisoning or maybe some sort of flu. Puking, etc, all very nasty. I slept on the sofa to avoid exposure in case it was the flu. Monday I went to work, and while driving to a customer, had to pull over and....

Yea, nasty. I continued on, did my preso, went home (puking on the way) and then spent 2 days in the bathroom and recovering. So, same food problem she had, or an actual 24 hour flu, or what exactly we'll never know.

Progress on the wood shed, got a few holders in and actually split and stacked some wood so we have some staying dry while I do the rest of the build.

Gun show over the weekend, and the first thing the woman said was "don't buy anything from the fun table!". Damn, she knows gun shows too well...

Basically everything she won't let me buy is actually available at one vendor. Crossbows, blow guns, machetes, etc. Makes it easy to find, or avoid, as necessary. What I did end up getting was an upgraded upper for my AR. I've been unhappy with the accuracy of the PSA setup so I used my spending cash to get a whole new setup instead of trying to upgrade the barrel on the PSA. Way lighter, and much nicer build quality, but let's just hope it's got the accuracy I'm seeking.

Time for some maintenance on the G34, had an actual malfunction at the match yesterday so it's time for a deep cleaning and perhaps some spring replacement. Also taking this time to clean the mags and repaint the base plates since the yellow is chipping off as the mags hit the ground over and over again.

Also toying with using silver sharpie on the back of the follower to make it easier to see where the follower is and the amount of rounds in the mag.

Speaking of the match, here is a video of me on Stage 2. Slow, but accurate, like really accurate. Don't think I dropped a single shot.

The silver might look like rounds sometimes, so I'm trying it with red to more match the orange followers of the Gen5 mags. The red is kinda dark though even over the silver, but I don't want to use paint as I think it will add drag to the follower.

10:37:32

And after polishing the internals while on my 9:30 call, I quickly washed them with soap and water, dried them off and reassembled. All clean with fresh paint and numbers applied, ready for another 5000 rounds.

Finished the wood holders yesterday and split some wood to stack. Some of the pine that's been sitting out is rotten, but some is OK. It's good I'm getting a handle on the wood situation, there is a lot of stuff I want to cut and stack before it goes bad sitting out in random places.

Today was cooking, all day. Gingerbread cookies for some reason:

And two batches of pasta. Veal, those funny little onions and cheese in one and pumpkin in th either. The technique doesn't work for the pumpkin, the filling is too wet and when you try to pinch them closed it doesn't work. I had to resort to just doing a folded ravioli like thing so that the pasta edges would stay 'clean' and actually stick. Just made up a test batch of them and they taste OK and hold together when cooking. Meh, not my best effort.

Input the last batch of water level data. It does leak 2x as fast when the water level gets over a certain depth. That holds with my theory that they didn't bentonite up the banks and it leaks out that way as the water level gets higher.

My Sig Romeo5 red dot came in along with my cheap ass magnifier. What's weird is that the Vortex magnifier lines up better with the Sig dot vs. the Vortex dot, and the cheap magnifier lines up with the Vortex dot. So much for standards people, they all claim to be the same height but clearly they're not. Anyway, both 'backup' rifles are set, just need to zero things and put them away.

Screwing around with more charts on my spending. Guns/ammo is a huge portion of my discretionary spending, and a non-trivial part of my total spending. Wow.

Got a 2nd airport express from a dude at work for $35 and added it to the home network. They only have 100mbit interfaces on them but the radios are really good, much better than anything else I have, so it's worth the reduction in overall throughput to get better signals out to the phones/tablet. 100mbit is plenty... for now.

My fancy scale came in today, so now I can start recording weight, body fat, etc in the health app. It looks weight wise pretty close to work considering at work I weigh myself naked before a shower and this reading was taken while I have 3 layers of stuff on (it's cold in the house!). To be consistent though you have to take them at the same time of day, so I'll be doing one weigh in each morning right after I get up and pee.

So, some data behind the scale. First shot is when I got it, mid day wearing clothes. Second shot is end of day naked, 3rd is morning naked. Notice how much changes over night, water must evaporate out and be lost due to breathing, I don't think I lost that much actual weight over night... it's not how it works.

That last reading lines up with the scale at work pretty well. After my workout this morning work said 144 which is close enough to 145.17 when you consider I did lose more water while sweating a bit during the workout. That confirms that both scales are 'close enough' that I can compare old results to new.

Now running on a new VM built fresh on KVM. I'm being 'lazy', not upgrading the web server to Centos 7 because it uses apache 2.4 and I don't want to debug an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.4 right now. Hoping that good old Red Hat really is backporting patches to the older official packages until 2020 like they say they're doing for Centos 6. Everything else is on Centos 7 now (all the hypervisors and lab systems).

20:34:20

Glock got all new guts tonight, striker spring, spring cups, trigger spring and the stock slide stop back (which has a new spring). Should be good to go for another 16k rounds.

Also my ebay hi-point mags showed up. No, I don't know why I got them.

Also, since they include it in the box, I decided to try out the rear ghost ring sight on the hi-point. I mean, they're awesome on rifles, so why not...

Think I forgot to post this, but the woman's mom sent me some coffee from their Hawaii trip. It's pretty good dark roast, zero bitter after taste.
